Papier-Mâché
Papier mâché is a delicate and decorative craft most famously associated with Kashmir. The process begins with layers of hand-pressed paper pulp moulded into sculptural forms, which are then dried, polished, and prepared for painting. Artisans meticulously hand-paint intricate motifs—often inspired by nature, florals, and traditional patterns—using fine brushes and natural pigments.

Kashmir Valley, carrying forward a family tradition rooted in patience,
precision, and artistry. With over two decades of experience, he handcrafts each
piece with meticulous care — shaping, smoothing, and painting intricate motifs
that celebrate the elegance of Kashmiri craftsmanship.

Papier-Mâché Craft Process

Step 1: Pulp
Recycled paper is soaked and beaten into a soft pulp, forming the
foundation of every handcrafted piece.
Step 2: Form
Artisans carefully shape the pulp over traditional moulds, creating
graceful forms entirely by hand.
Step 3: Finishing
Each piece is naturally sun-dried and meticulously smoothed to
prepare a flawless surface.
Step 4: Paint & Finish
Intricate motifs are delicately hand-painted and sealed with a
protective lacquer, bringing the artwork to life.
